First gas flows at Beach’s Middleton project

PERTH (miningweekly.com) − ASX-listed Beach Energy has produced its first gas from the Middleton project, in South Australia, the firm reported on Monday.

MD Reg Nelson said in a statement that gas was now flowing to the Moonanga tie-in point, where raw gas would be sold to the South Australian Copper Basin joint venture (JV), which consists of energy major Santos, Delhi Petroleum and Origin Energy.

Under the gas sale agreement, a minimum of three-billion cubic feet of raw gas would be sold to the JV.

An initial production rate, after ramp-up, was expected to be in the area of 25-million standard cubic feet a day, comprising around 15 Tj a day sales gas and 1 250 barrels a day of liquefied petroleum gas and condensate.

Nelson said that gas was flowing through a flexible pipe, which reduced capital costs and accelerated pipe laying time. “This has broken new ground for Australia and more applications of this type are expected to follow,” he said.
