Gloucester Shire Council representatives were among the local government representatives to meet with the President of the Shires Association of NSW, Cr Ray Donald, in Dungog last Tuesday.
The meeting, of D Division councils, which includes Dungog; Gloucester; Singleton; Upper Hunter and Walcha, is the sixth in a series of Divisional Tours being held with rural and regional councils, covered a number of issues important to the Upper Hunter Shire region including the impact of mining on local communities and the review of the draft Code of Conduct for councillors.
President of the Shires Association of NSW, Cr Ray Donald, said several councils voiced their strong concerns about the impact of mining developments on local communities, infrastructure, and the health and well being of townships.
“The impact of coal seam gas and other mining related issues on communities in this region is of equal importance to the effect of the Murray Darling Basin Plan on communities situated along those rivers,” said Cr Donald.
