Independent member for Lyne Rob Oakeshott will be among those at a meeting called by Gloucester Shire Council to outline its plans for its campaign to oppose the application by Gloucester Resources Ltd (GRL) for its Rocky Hill Coal project.

Gloucester Shire Council has called the meeting to discuss the new coalmine proposed by GRL which will be established within 900m of residential estates to the south east of the township of Gloucester.

“Council has resolved unanimously to oppose this development so close to a residential settlement and within an Environmental Protection Area” said Mayor Slack.

“We have established a Working Group to manage our opposition to this proposed mine”.

Council wants to provide local residents with an opportunity to understand the scope of this proposal and to hear a range of speakers as a first step in this process.

The meeting will be held in the Gloucester Soldiers Club Auditorium at 6:30pm on Monday, 26 March.

Local MP Rob Oakeshott will speak about the proposed new mine and the independent scientific assessment to be carried out by the Interim Scientific Committee on Coal Seam Gas and Open Cut Coal Mining.
