FARMERS have slammed the State government’s proposed land use policy as a joke and reacted angrily to suggestions by Planning Minister Brad Hazzard that they just don’t understand it.
In Parliament on Tuesday, Mr Hazzard deflected public criticism by farmers of the policy released just hours before, saying he was disappointed “NSW farmers and irrigators, ... don’t appear to understand it”.
“They certainly do not seem to understand that water is being protected,” Mr Hazzard said.
But NSW Farmers president Fiona Simson said they did understand it – and the fact it broke a key election promise by the government to protect NSW agricultural land from mining exploration and extraction.
