Draft New England Strategic Agricultural Lands (NSW Government)


It's called a gateway process, but farmers are worried the Draft Strategic Regional Land Use plans have left the gate open.

The plans released yesterday identify land of high agricultural value and stipulate that mining and coal seam gas proposals in those areas will be subject to the Gateway process involving an independent panel.

But ultimately cabinet will have the power to bypass the new "gateway" approval process.
On the Morning Show today we spoke to the NSW Planning Minister Brad Hazzard about the policy.

He said it would be overly simplistic to suggest the government should just rule out mining or coal seam gas extraction on strategic agricultural lands.
