THE Federal Government's announcement of an expert scientific committee to research the impacts of mining and coal seam gas extraction on agricultural and environmental resources has been welcomed by AgForce.
AgForce policy director Drew Wagner said the Commonwealth announcement vindicated AgForce's long-held view that the coal seam gas industry had been allowed to rapidly expand across high-quality Queensland farming country without sufficient understanding of its environmental impacts.
"It's heartening to see the Federal Government adopting the precautionary principle on coal seam gas rather than being driven by the sizeable royalties the industry delivers," Mr Wagner said.
