Queensland’s CSG Bribe not Smart

Queenslanders won’t be fooled by a blatant attempt to buy their support for the runaway coal seam gas industry, Australian Greens mining spokesperson Senator Larissa Waters said today.

“If the only way we can pay for our kids’ education is to allow coal seam gas to take huge risks with our land, our environment and our water, then something is really wrong with the way the budget is being handled,” Senator Larissa Waters said.

“The Queensland Government is trying to legitimise coal seam gas through education, but Queenslanders are already smarter than that.

“The bribe would be much better spent educating the Queensland Government about the potentially irreversible damage that coal seam gas mining could cause to our groundwater systems and our prime agricultural land.”
