Brown Criticises CSG Water Reports

REPORTS that the Queensland Government allowed the dumping of contaminated coal seam gas water into the Condamine River have been strongly criticised by Mayor Ray Brown.

An ABC Radio investigation allegedly found Origin Energy and ConocoPhillips were allowed to dump treated coal seam gas water, containing chemicals and traces of heavy metal, into the river south of Chinchilla from the company's desalination plant on the Walloons gas field.

But Cr Brown said the State Government and gas companies had been given an 18-month permit with strict regulations.
