Farmers Blockade CSG Drilling Works

Liverpool Plains farmers say inaction by the NSW Government and the Commonwealth has forced them to take matters into their own hands

About 70 farmers have launched a blockade to stop the drilling of a coal-seal gas exploration well in north-western New South Wales.

The farmers have gathered outside the main gate of the property about nine kilometres outside of Spring Ridge, on the state's Liverpool Plains.

Oil and gas company Santos is working to drill a pilot well at the site to assess the area's CSG reserves.

Caroona Coal Action Group spokesman Tim Duddy says farmers are taking action after eight federal and state ministers did not respond to pleas for intervention.
"We will not allow our agricultural productivity to be compromised and it is time that the State Government intervene," Mr Duddy said.
