Margaret River Mining Bans still Unknown

Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett said he will wait for an appeal to the environmental watchdog to be resolved before legislating against mining in Margaret River.

Last year an application by LD Operations to mine coal at Osmington sparked wide community anger.

The state’s environmental watchdog eventually ruled against the proposal, but the company has launched an appeal.

Last year Barnett said he would consider changing laws to prevent mining in the region in order to protect it.
