Disputes over access arrangements for Lightning Ridge opal
miners need to be resolved now, says President of NSW Farmers Asssociation Fiona
Simson.
Ms Simson is calling on the State Government to release a
report which was tabled 2 months ago, which miners and farmers hope will defuse
the building tensions in the community.
The report was written by former Chief Justice of the
Industrial Relations Court, Murray Wilcox after extensive consultation with
farmers and miners.
Ms Simson says landholders in the region are concerned
about the lack of certainty as to who is accessing their land at any time, and
they also safety and indemnity concerns.
