Cricketer Carl Rackemann Set to Try Pace for Bob Katter's Party

FORMER Australian Test cricketer Carl Rackemann has bowled a bouncer into Queensland politics with confirmation he will contest the next state election as a candidate for Bob Katter's Australian Party.
The legendary pace bowler, who took over his family's farm near Kingaroy, north of Brisbane, has been preselected for the new party to run for the seat held for 40 years by former Queensland premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen.

Rackemann is the first high-profile athlete to enter politics in the sports-mad state in recent years, after bids to lure rugby league greats Wally Lewis, by Labor, and Shane Webcke, by the Liberal National Party.

A third-generation peanut grower and grazier, Rackemann said he was convinced to stand for the party by Mr Katter after long discussions about the plight of farmers on the land.
