Woodside Petroleum will delay decisions on its controversial liquefied natural gas project in the Browse basin of Western Australia by more than six months, the company has told the Australian Securities Exchange.
The move could delay a final investment decision on the project to the first half of 2013, rather than its current due date of mid-2012.
In the statement, the company said the change would give it more time to complete necessary assurance activities.
“The variation would allow time to better evaluate the outcomes of front-end engineering and design work and the results of the tender processes for the development’s major contracts,” the company said.
The proposed development is aimed at commercialising the Brecknock, Calliance and Torosa gas and condensate fields in the Browse basin, 425 kilometres off the Kimberley coast.
