Facing the prospect of a moratorium on the
coal seam gas industry in NSW, Santos Ltd has warned the move would cost the
region billions in investment and several thousand jobs if the move halted the
company's plans for a project in the Gunnedah Basin, according to a report by
the Australian Financial Review.
“(Gunnedah is) really is a fantastic
opportunity for NSW,” Santos's vice-president for eastern Australia, James
Baulderstone said, according to the AFR. “It will convert this state into a
growth state from a resource point of view.”
NSW has seen a growing movement against CSG,
largely due to concerns about the long-term impact on water supplies and
potential surface and groundwater contamination.
