Facing the prospect of a moratorium on the 
coal seam gas industry in NSW, Santos Ltd has warned the move would cost the 
region billions in investment and several thousand jobs if the move halted the 
company's plans for a project in the Gunnedah Basin, according to a report by 
the Australian Financial Review. 
“(Gunnedah is) really is a fantastic 
opportunity for NSW,” Santos's vice-president for eastern Australia, James 
Baulderstone said, according to the AFR. “It will convert this state into a 
growth state from a resource point of view.” 
NSW has seen a growing movement against CSG, 
largely due to concerns about the long-term impact on water supplies and 
potential surface and groundwater contamination.
