Coal Seam Gas Mining Inquiry: 11th Hour Letters

BOTH MidCoast Water and - it is understood - Greater Taree City Council, have now prepared letters to the State government committee inquiring into the coal seam gas industry.

Letters from the two councils will be sent to the committee by the submissions deadline of close of business today, joining other submissions from across the Manning Valley.
Residents concerned at the threat from coal seam gas (CSG) exploration and drilling had only a short time in which to express their concerns by way of submission, after the Legislative Council on August 5 empowered the General Purpose Standing Committee No. 5 to inquire into and report on the environmental, health, economic and social impacts of CSG activities and examine the role of CSG in meeting the future energy needs of NSW.

The newly formed Manning Alliance Inc has spearheaded a campaign in recent days to have individuals and organisations support its own lengthy submission to the investigating committee.

After written submissions close today, the committee will hold public sessions in Sydney, Taree and three other regional centres over the next three months, Taree's all-day inquiry planned for Monday October 31.    Read More
