The company looking to mine coal in the Kimberley region of
Western Australia says it will not be affected by the Federal Government's
decision to place 19 million hectares of the region on the National Heritage
List.
In a statement to its shareholders, Rey Resources says its
proposed mine site and associated transport route to the Derby Port are outside
the boundary of the National Heritage Listing.
But opponent of the project, and Nyikina Traditional Owner,
Dr Anne Poelina, says the company should be more honest with its
shareholders.
She says that while the project is outside the heritage
boundary, it does have the potential to harm values within the heritage
area.
