It's been revealed that Metgasco has disposed of more than one million litres of coal seam gas waste water at a Richmond Valley sewage treatment plant

The Environment Protection Authority has cautioned the Richmond Valley Council for allowing Metgasco to dispose of water at the Casino sewage treatment plant.

The council was ordered to stop the process in April, almost 12 months after it first began accepting water from Metgasco which was being stored in holding ponds as part of the company's coal seam gas exploration activities.

The sewage treatment plant is licensed by the EPA and the acceptance of the water did not comply with conditions of the license.

However, after its investigations the EPA determined there had been no environmental harm or disruption to the sewage treatment process.
