Prospecting for oil and gas on the Northern Tablelands?

Could the Northern Tablelands be the next area opened up for oil and gas exploration?
Most of the recent attention about potential coal seam gas activities in the region has been in the North West, but today a community group in Armidale says it's found a major application for Special Petroleum Prospecting over much of the Northern Tablelands.

The area reachers from the border near Tenterfield, down to Glen Innes, Armidale, Walcha and to the mid-north coast.

The application has been made by the NSW Aboriginal Land Council.

The Amidale Coal Seam Action Group says it is shocked and disturbed to see an application for coal seam gas 'prospecting' has been submitted across a such a vast area.
