Plans revealed for new coal export terminal : Central Qld

Plans have been unveiled for another coal export terminal in central Queensland.

The Brisbane-based company Tenement to Terminal says it will buy more than 130 hectares of land at Yarwun, near Gladstone, to build a facility next to the Wiggins Island Coal Terminal.

Metro Coal has a 20 per cent stake in the venture and says it will be a customer of the terminal.

Coal terminal chairman Everald Compton says he hopes it can start exporting by 2017.
"We've done $2 million worth of engineering work and planning work," he said.
"We're planning our rail loops into the port.

"We're planning how we protect the seagrasses, how we have our loading facilities.
"We're on progress to have [the] opening in the first quarter of 2017."

Mr Compton says several coal companies have expressed an interest.
"Metrocoal owns 20 per cent of the company," he said.

"They helped us in getting the project going but they will be one of a number of coal companies that will use the terminal.
