Oakdale residents have expressed their anger about being kept in the dark over a coal seam gas test well in the area.
Apex and Ormil Energy began test drilling in the Burragorang region near Oakdale last month.
Over 200 residents attended a community meeting in Oakdale on Sunday, which was addressed by Apex and Ormil representatives.
Oakdale resident Brett Cottee helped organise the meeting, and says the community wasn't consulted about the project.
"There was quite a bit of anger and frustration at the fact we were left unaware," he said.
"The first most people knew about it was either when they saw trucks entering a property or when they heard the bore running at 2am to dig the hole in the ground."
