Katter fires up his 'army on the march'

‘‘Smash the bastards!’’ cries a voice at the back of the room, and several Akubra-hatted heads nod in furious agreement.

It’s the Katter’s Australian Party’s Queensland election campaign launch, and figurehead, founder and federal leader Bob Katter has just told the faithful of a policy to halt coal seam gas development.

Coal seam gas companies aren’t real popular around here.
Nor are the dominant supermarket chains, international fly-in fly-out workers, and least of all the two big political parties.

Having walked to the stage to the strains of the Hunters and Collectors anti-war ballad Holy Grail, Mr Katter tells the crowd to prepare for battle.

‘‘There is an army on the march,’’ he says.
