A RALLY organised by Stop CSG-Sydney will take place outside state parliament this week ahead of a debate on coal seam gas exploration in suburban areas such as St Peters.
Last month Dart Energy was renegotiating its licence with the state government for drilling in Sydney despite the company’s assertion it had no plans no drill at a site it held in St Peters.
A petition with 20,000 signatures has called for a ban on fracking and a moratorium on all CSG mining activities.
The protest group said a new state government draft plan on strategic regional land use had signalled there would be no area off limits to coal seam gas exploration.
But Planning Minister Brad Hazzard said the government was delivering on its election commitment through a scientific arms-length assessment process.
