Pump jack and drilling rig on prairie location
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is working with the Wyoming government to retest water supplies after a report last year concluded gas drilling likely polluted a local aquifer. The EPA has investigated an aquifer near the village of Pavillion for years after residents complained about their drinking water .
It concluded in a draft report in December that chemicals including benzene and glycols likely migrated into the aquifer from hydraulic fracturing operations. Encana, the Calgary company which operates the gas field, criticized the EPA report, saying the contamination could have come from the building of monitoring wells at the aquifer.
