Apex begins mining exploration in Warragamba catchment area

WOLLONDILLY shire residents and environmental groups have expressed concerns about Apex and Ormil Engery’s coal seam gas exploration in the Warragamba catchement area.

Exploration began in Oakdale two weeks ago and was completed yesterday.

Exploration manager Gerard Pol said information would be processed to see if drilling for gas would be worthwhile.

He believes the processes do not harm the environment.

Mr Pol said he did a letterbox drop to inform nearby residents about the exploration.

Wollondilly Council, however, was concerned about not being informed about the exploration.

“The Wollondilly community needs to be informed about this type of activity,” Mayor Col Mitchell said.

Rivers SOS members expressed concern about mining exploration close to the dam.
