Doubt cast over parties' CSG efforts

A landholder advocate on southern Queensland's Western Downs says he does not expect either of the major parties to do much to rein in the power of mining companies.

Dalby lawyer Peter Shannon has represented landholders in disputes with coal and coal seam gas (CSG) companies.

He says the state Labor Government is too close to the resources industry to act independently if environmental interests are threatened.

Mr Shannon also says a Liberal National Party (LNP) proposal to limit red and green tape could lead to lax regulation.

"A lot of people acknowledge that we have duplication but by gee, they better get right which tape they cut," he said.
