CSG Exploration Heads West

Communities need to work together: Jess Moore.
STOP-CSG Illawarra is concerned energy companies have shifted their focus west to the Burragorang region and has vowed to help Oakdale residents in their campaign to halt drilling.

Spokesperson Jess Moore said industry journals had reported earlier this week that Apex Energy and Ormil Energy had commenced drilling a coal seam gas well in the Warragamba catchment.

"We are horrified to hear that drilling has started," she said. "This is step one of a project that risks the drinking water of people supplied by Warragamba Dam."
Ms Moore said the Illawarra community had so far halted plans to develop a gas field in the region. "But we are concerned that Apex and Ormil have shifted their focus west; to another community, another part of the catchment, and a project they feel will be subject to less public scrutiny."

She said last Sunday's Stop-CSG meeting voted unanimously to assist action taken by Oakdale residents to stop the drilling.
