Manning Alliance renews call for CSG moratorium

A Manning Valley anti coal seam gas alliance has renewed a call for a moratorium on exploration and drilling in the Gloucester Basin.

Gloucester is now a bioregion to be investigated by an independent scientific committee looking at the CSG impacts.

The committee was set up with a $150-million Federal grant to examine CSG ground water impacts.

Manning Alliance chairman Peter Epov says there should be a moratorium on local projects until the research is finished.

"I don't think the battle is over yet, it's a long way to go.

"But very clearly now the science is coming through and the science is demonstrating that not enough research has been done.

"A lot of the CSG projects have popped up without sufficient proper preparation and due diligence," he said.
