Around 600 people turned up to a public meeting on CSG in Lismore last Thursday
Organiser Simon Chance said a turnout of 600 people to the CSG public meeting at the Lismore Workers Club was beyond his wildest expectations. He said that at another meeting tonight (March 8) they will start devising action plans to stop drill rigs and keep public outrage ignited.
Simon said the newly-emerging Lismore Group Against Gas (this name may change) had 240 people who signed on the dotted line to be involved in direct action, and he anticipates blockades and civil disobedience if either Metgasco or Arrow begin production.
He said the group is eagerly awaiting the NSW Upper House Inquiry's findings to be released on April 27 and said there will be a public action regardless of the results.
"We're planning a major rally - we'll either celebrate the fact they want to start putting brakes on the CSG industry, or if we feel they haven't gone far enough then it will be a protest," Simon said. "And if the NSW Government issues production licences to Metgasco at any stage we will try and stop that activity occurring by any legal means available to us.
