Environment Defenders Office: NSW

The Environment Defenders Office (EDO) is a community legal centre specialising in public interest environmental law.

EDO NSW is a not-for-profit community legal centre specialising in public interest environmental law. We help individuals and community groups who are working to protect the natural and built environment. The EDO is part of a national network of EDOs who help to protect the environment through law in their States.

The EDO has an active program of casework, education and law reform. In addition, ...we provide free initial legal advice to the community. You can help support the EDO by becoming a Friend of the EDO or by volunteering.

The EDO is the only legal centre in NSW that provides specialist advice about public interest environmental law matters. Since 1985 the EDO has pursued its mission of providing public interest legal services to regional, state and national conservation groups, resident action groups and individuals, to protect the built and natural environment.

The EDO is now acknowledged as a crucial element in the functioning of environmental law in NSW and Australia.

The EDO's mission is to promote the public interest and improve environmental outcomes through the informed use of the law.
