Protesters blockade coal seam gas site at Gloucester

More community protesters are this morning expected to join the blockade of coal seam gas drill equipment at a property at Gloucester north of Newcastle.

Around 12 protesters have spent the night blocking the equipment from entering the site.

A-G-L were given the nod to develop a 330 well gas field in February, but the community are waiting for the Land And Environment Court to rule on their appeal.

Graeme Healy from the Barrington-Gloucester-Stroud Preservation Alliance says A-G-L is legally allowed to begin drilling, but the community wants it to wait until the ruling.

"There is great fear that if the drilling proceeds then there is a great chance of gas migration and the pollution of underground aquifers - that is of great concern to the community," he said.
