Meeting: BGSP Alliance, Tuesday 6th December, 2011

Please note that the Blockade Information and Training Session has been postponed. It will now be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday 6 December. The venue is unchanged. Please email Steve Robinson if you are planning to attend: treesteve@gmail.com.

Please read the following important message from Graeme Healy and spread the word. If you would like to become involved, you need to email Graeme at: bgspalliance@yahoo.com.au

'You will be aware that AGL is proposing to drill a further 4 pilot wells in the Forbesdale area as part of its exploration program for the Stage 1 development of its gas field.

Following the successful blockade by farmers at Spring Ridge which forced Santos to abandon drilling on the black soil plains until a water study is completed, BGSPA asked the following question of AGL.

"In view of the decision by Santos to postpone drilling of further exploration wells at Spring Ridge until completion of a catchment water study, will AGL show the same good faith to the people of the Gloucester Valley and postpone drilling of the four additional pilot wells proposed to commence at Forbesdale later this month, until (1) the findings of the LC Inquiry into CSG are handed down and (2) AGL completes its hydrogeological study of the Gloucester basin."

 AGL declined.

Members have begun urging that some form of non-violent direct action be taken. Consequently, BGSPA is now moving to implement a blockade to prevent AGL from moving drill rigs onto the site. The blockade will be maintained until AGL agrees to postpone further exploration and allow an independent and peer reviewed water study of the Gloucester basin to be completed.

This is a significant and logistically challenging operation. I urge every member to support this action. In addition to the actual blockaders, we will require a team of "blockade supporters" to provide assistance in areas such as drawing up rosters, managing communications, providing meals, taking photographs etc. Please advise whether or not you are prepared to be involved and if so, as a blockader, blockade supporter or both.

An information and training session will be held at 2:00 pm this Sunday, 4 December at Ed Robinson's place. Please come along.
I reiterate, this is not a flag-waving two day frolic.  It will need to be mounted 24/7 and for as long as it takes. It will not succeed if left to a few. This is an opportunity for all members to stand shoulder to shoulder.'
