Keeping Mudgee’s character is a question of balance, says Ray

SAVE YOUR HERITAGE: Television journalist and broadcaster Ray Martin believes Mudgee’s success in the future relies on preserving the town’s history and working in partnership with mining. Preserving heritage hotspots like Hill End and working hand-in-hand with the mining industry is the key to Mudgee region’s prosperity, says prominent television journalist Ray Martin.
“Progress and heritage is a huge issue,” said the former 60 Minutes, Midday and A Current Affair reporter on a recent visit to Mudgee.
“With coal, gas, mining, we need to make sure progress and heritage work together.”
Despite hundreds of interviews asking the tough questions of some of the world’s most influential and controversial celebrities and political leaders, Martin admitted it’s the question of how to find the balance between progress and heritage that rests closest to his heart.
How do you take advantage of the prosperity that this country has, without destroying the history and culture that makes it the place it is?
