VETERAN environmental activist and Lock the Gate Alliance president Drew Hutton will be a special guest speaker at a public meeting at the Alexandra Hall in Toogoolawah tomorrow night..
Mr Hutton received a fine of $2000 in a Chinchilla Magistrates Court late last week after being found guilty of obstructing a coal seam gas company on private land without a reasonable excuse.
No conviction was recorded.
The charge of obstruction under Section 804 of the Petroleum and Gas Act which guarantees mining and gas companies access to private land, carries a maximum penalty of $50,000.
If Mr Hutton had received a not guilty verdict, it would have strengthened the rights of landholders under Australian law.
