Coal Seam Gas, or Coal Seam Methane, is natural gas contained within coal seams. There is growing concern about the potential impact of Coal Seam Gas extraction on the aquifers or farmland around the gas well.
Prospecting for, or production of Coal Seam Gas requires one of several licences and leases - A Petroleum Exploration Licence (PEL), a Petroleum Assessment Lease (PAL), or a Petroleum Production Lease (PPL).
