Call for NSW CSG royalties program

A Western Australia-styled royalties program could help NSW communities deal with any expansion of the coal seam gas (CSG) industry, an inquiry has been told.

NSW Local Government Association president Keith Rhoades said councils would need additional sources of revenue "to address infrastructure funding shortfalls".

He called for a system similar to the WA Royalties for Regions program, where a quarter of the state's mining and onshore petroleum royalties are paid to communities via grants and infrastructure projects.

Mr Rhoades on Thursday told the NSW CSG inquiry there should be two funding pools.
