THE mining expansion and fly-in workforces are having a negative impact on the Royal Flying Doctor Service's ability to meet the demands of remote communities.

The service's chief executive, Greg Rochford, told a federal parliamentary committee that in Western Australia evacuations had jumped 5 per cent last financial year following a 20 per cent jump the previous year, coinciding with the boom.

"Any increased demand depletes the availability of aircraft and medical personnel to respond to medical emergencies to non-commercial and non-FIFO (fly-in, fly-out) populations and may affect planned services," Mr Rochford said in his submission.
