Claims that the Queensland government's declared protection of the Lake Eyre Basin will hurt farmers are simply not true, landholders and the Wilderness Society say.
Farmer's body Agforce spoke out against three Wild River protection declarations for the Cooper Creek, Georgina and Diamantina catchments announced on Saturday.
Agforce's Drew Wagner said the protection areas could limit the construction of fences and dams and the management of erosion and weed-control efforts.
It could also erode property values, he said.
However, an alliance of farmers says that the claims are simply not true and that most farmers support the protections.
