David vs Goliath as nuns take on CSG industry

ELIZABETH JACKSON: A group of reclusive nuns in New South Wales has unexpectedly joined activists protesting against the coal seam gas industry.

The Carmelite nuns, whose monastery is in south-western Sydney, have told a New South Wales Upper House inquiry into coal seam gas that proposed wells on land adjacent to their property will dramatically reduce their quality of life.

The nuns, who rarely leave their monastery, are calling for coal seam gas expansion in the region to stop because of the social impacts on residents.

AM's Julia Holman spoke with Sister Jocelyn Kramer at the hearing in Mittagong in the New South Wales Southern Highlands.
